A Port in a Storm

A sailing ship drifts into the harbour battered and torn from its travels.

It ties up to the inviting jetty – safe at last from gale and choppy sea. Welcoming arms embrace all.

A time to rest the weary head upon the lie of land.

Seeking solace and reprovision many days come and go and still the captain and crew have no intent to depart safe harbour. They ignore the growing feeling of restlessness within and reject the lure of adventure and treasure on the distant horizon.

Should they stay too long and sleep away the live long day they may recline at ease for a time protracted. One day they will awaken to discover their ship has sailed without them and they have been left stranded in a familiar yet unchanging land where they will repose for the rest of their lives assured that they will remain undisturbed by a change in the weather.

This self-penned short poem of sorts can be a reminder that we can often fall prey to marking time too often in a place of safety and security. Remember that the fruit is out on the limb and if we want to explore our truth then we have to be prepared to weather the occasional storm as we journey the sea of life in search of our treasure.
